Sign Out of iCloud

  1. Go to the Apple menu.
  2. Click on System Preferences.
  3. Click on the iCloud icon.
  4. If prompted, provide your Apple ID and go to the Overview option.
  5. Save your important files and folders, then click on Sign Out.

Deauthorize iTunes/Music App

  1. Open the Music app on Mac OS later versions, or iTunes on older versions.
  2. Go to the Apple menu.
  3. Click on Apple Account.
  4. Click on Deauthorize.
  5. Provide the Apple ID and password to confirm.
  6. Click on Deauthorize.

Sign Out of Messages

  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Click on iMessage.
  3. Click Preferences.
  4. Click on Sign Out.

Reset P-RAM/NVRAM

  1. Shut down your iMac.
  2. Turn it on again.
  3. Press and hold the “Option + Command + P + R” keys simultaneously until the Apple Logo or startup sound appears.

Unpair your Bluetooth devices as well to proceed further. 

How to Factory Reset Your iMac

For MacOS Monterey

For MacOS Ventura

  2. Select System Settings.

  5. Click on “Erase All Content and Settings.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to erase data and settings.

Where you need to add your Apple ID and password, provide that, and then click on “Erase All Content and Settings” to confirm and allow the process to complete.

How to Factory Reset Using Recovery Mode

  1. Restart your iMac.
  2. Press and hold the Command + R keys until the Apple logo appears.
  3. Click on Disk Utility.
  4. Click on View.
  5. Click “View All Devices.”
  6. Select the top drive and click Erase.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions and provide your Apple ID and password.
  8. Click on the “Erase” option to confirm.
  9. Exit Disk Utility.
